The ready-to-use freezing WC requires no water connection, sewer or construction of ventilation. All you need is a mains socket. Its portability and plug & play installation make it an ideal choice for summer cottages and any space without a sewer. The oval 21-litre inner container that fits inside the toilet seat takes a biodegradable bag which can be removed hygienically for composting.

The Ekohytte Frost freezing WC has been designed with energy economy in mind. Optimised compressor technology and extra-thick insulation make the unit extremely economical. Ekohytte Frost's consumption is only 0.36 kWh per 24 h — only half that of comparable competing products. The thick base insulation and high adjustable feet mean the freezing WC should be installed in a heated space.

Before use

• After removing the product from its packaging, check for damage. Contact the seller if you find any damage.

• Leave the unit upright for at least half an hour. Any oil that may have flowed into the pipe during transport will then flow back into the compressor.

• The unit has adjustable feet. Adjust them before use so the WC sits securely and level.

• The toilet seat is intended for compostable waste, including toilet paper. Do not put anything non-compostable in it, e.g. rubbish, sanitary items, chemicals, detergents, matches, ash or cigarette butts.

Placement
The WC must be placed indoors in a warm space. It can be used on underfloor-heated floors because of the thick base insulation and high feet. Heat increases the unit's power consumption, so we do not recommend placing it directly next to a radiator or other heat source. The optimal room temperature is between 10 °C and 22 °C, maximum 30 °C. The toilet seat must be positioned horizontally and secured using its feet.

Use

• Push the base of the biodegradable bag to the bottom of the container and turn its edges over the top of the container so it can be placed into the toilet seat.

• Check that the bucket handle is inside so the seat ring and lid close properly.

• Insert the plug into a socket and switch the WC on using the power switch so the green indicator lights up.

• Wait about one hour before use.

Emptying

• When the bucket is about two-thirds full, the biodegradable bag should be changed.

• Fold the top edge of the bag into the container and lift the container out of the seat.

• Compost the waste in a household or garden compost bin to which you have added plenty of dry material before emptying the waste.

• Pierce the surface of the bag, for example with a garden fork, and cover with a layer of dry material.

• Check whether ice has formed around the edges of the bucket cavity. Defrost if necessary and dry the walls.

• Place a new bag in position.

Use of dry material
Dry material is not required in a freezing WC. Dry material should be added only for post-composting.

Cleaning
Clean the Ekohytte by wiping with a damp cloth. You may use all common household cleaners. The container can be removed from the seat and washed with water. Dry it before replacing. Do not use water to clean the rear cavity. Clean it once a year by vacuuming.

Longer periods of non-use

• Unplug the unit.

• Empty, clean and dry the container and the freezing chamber.

• Leave the lid open.

• The unit can be stored in an unheated space.
